Mon, 07/18/2005 - 00:37
Last night I was laying in bed with my eyes closed and all of a sudden on the left side of my brain it felt just like an electrical shock.I jumped and there was a tingling sensation down my right arm.Didn't last very long.A few seconds later same thing but not quite as intense.Has anyone ever had this happen to them?Or am I just going crazy?

maggie,

No, you're not going crazy.  What you may have had was two partial seizures. Main reason why I chose this one seizure is because you were conscious when it happened. Maybe now is a good time to bring this incident up to your doctor to see if anything needs to be looked into.

Thanks for your reply maggie. What you said,  made me realize that I forgot to type simple partail seizures, instaed of just partial seizures. I went back and edited the first message.

"Why do I think partial seizure?" Well, first off there are only two types of partial seizures. One being simple partial and the other is called complex partial. Both of these take place on one side of the brain, being on either the right or left hemisphere. Most commonly for people it is on the leftside. Next deals with consciousness. As described in part of this website...

One question that is used to further classify partial seizures is whether consciousness (the ability to respond and remember) is "impaired" or "preserved."

You mention in your explaination that feel an electrical shock, jumped and noticed that there was a tingling sensation down your right arm. You were conscious. That matches the simple partial seizure, because "the person remains alert and can remember what happens." For complex partial seizures, "They quickly involve other areas of the brain that affect alertness and awareness. So even though the person's eyes are open and they may make movements that seem to have a purpose, in reality "nobody's home." The person is un-conscious whenever they have a complex partial seizure.

I myself, have had both types of these seizures. The complex partials are now under control by medications, but no luck with the simple partial seizures, which started back in 1987.

There's alot of details about epilepsy. It just takes time to locate the information and detail to understand it.

Hope this help ya.
