Can seizures cause orgasms?

Tue, 04/26/2005 - 09:02

I know there have been discussions of orgasm or sexual activity causing seizures.  But can seizures cause orgasms?

I have on numerous occasions had a spontaneous orgasm in my sleep --without any physical stimulation.  In my sleep state I almost always am aware a few seconds before what is going to happen and I try to stop it, because it is actually rather uncomfortable, causing very strong, almost painful contractions, and also resulting in my having to get up to go to the bathroom to urinate.  Very annoying.

Does anyone have this happen?  Is it possibly a seizure?

so very interesting to read your post.. what an incredible wealth of info i'm finding on my first day to this site!
and i must say the 'o' word caught my eye.. not for typical reasons, but because of my first doc's visit after having symptoms for a few months. i told him that i was feeling strange. he asked how so.. i said (embarrassed) that it was similar to approaching orgasm.
that did it! my poor little doc sent me to a psychologist, further delaying by 6 months the accurate diagnosis of partial complex (or complex partial) seizures.
that occured in 1977. sighh..
i now recognize the feeling as an aura, with accompanying 'deja vue' feelings. plus the sense that if i can ONLY remember this thing (it's a thought, i think) that's happening, the aura won't happen anymore. is that familiar to anyone else?

EVERY orgasm coexists with a seizure for me. I experience nightime (sleep) orgasms several times a week...but, lucky for ME, I remember the ORGASM, but get to ignore the embarrasment of the accompanying seizure...as my husband is snoring peacefully next to me. Since I, too, am asleep during the moments that lead up to awakening in the midst of it all...I cannot clarify whether it may be that the seizure INSTIGATES the orgasm in those situations. (But I'll get into some medical research sites and see what I can find.) Orgasms FRIGHTENED me for many years. Just before reaching climax, I would sometimes BEG him to stop...literally feeling it would be SO intense that it would kill me. For 15 years, this went on. (Which never seemed to hinder my desire, libido, or satisfaction, mind you!) Both my husband and I just figured that I experience orgasm very strongly. But when I was finally shocked with a dioagnosis of Epilepsy, when I thought I had MS...it all started to make sense! The odd, embarrassing convulsions that throw my body all over the bed...and sometimes dislocate my shoulder? NOT normal orgasm. Anyone else figure this out after years of feeling very "odd"?

I have had an orgasm as part of a seizure. It was in the middle of the day that it happened I was washing dishes and was not thinking about sex at all. First, I expericed a rapid onset episode of vertigo so bad that I fell off balance. Seconds later, my face felt hot and flushed, then my heart started racing, then the orgasm. It was less intense than when I achieve one having intercourse; so it was a difference of intensity not of kind. It freaked me out. I called 911 because of the vertigo and because I had had a history of a TIA. The room wouldn't stop spinning it was actually tilted and spinning. The paramedics took my vitals and cleared me of any immediate danger. I opted to drive to my neurologist at Lahey Clinic once the vertigo subsided. On the drive there I had all kinds of sensory stuff. I kept feeling this serene-euphoric-weird-memory-flashback-thing as I call it. Emotionally, I felt like I was the day of my dad's 35th birthday BBQ ( back in the 1970's) even though visually I could see the present day highway in front of me etc...just fine. These thingy's kept repeating every few minutes. (I must say it was cool to go back to the BBQ) When I got to the hospital my heart was still racing so the neurologist sent me to have an ECG. This came back with some PVC's and a bit on the tachy side (120 bpm sitting). But as far as the orgasm goes? I understand completely what you mean. It's not planned, therefore it was not "fun". In all seriousness, maybe because it happened so unexpectedly and so out of context, that's what creeped me out about the orgasm I had. Hope this was helpful to you.
