Can seizures cause orgasms?

Tue, 04/26/2005 - 09:02

I know there have been discussions of orgasm or sexual activity causing seizures.  But can seizures cause orgasms?

I have on numerous occasions had a spontaneous orgasm in my sleep --without any physical stimulation.  In my sleep state I almost always am aware a few seconds before what is going to happen and I try to stop it, because it is actually rather uncomfortable, causing very strong, almost painful contractions, and also resulting in my having to get up to go to the bathroom to urinate.  Very annoying.

Does anyone have this happen?  Is it possibly a seizure?

I know it sounds funny and enjoyable, and I wish that it were. But it's disrupting to my sleep and uncomfortable because of the intensity of the contractions. The imagery, if there is any dream I can associate it with, is not "sexy," though sometimes the dream seems to change abruptly to accommodate when is about to happen in just a matter of a second or two.  But it could also be a dream about, say, looking at numbers.

This is nothing I would have ever reported to a doctor, but now that I have been diagnosed with seizures, I wondered if this is related.  I had hesitantly posted it, since it is a rather embarrassing thing to talk about.

My seizures did not show up on the 24 hour EEG.  But a MRI showed 16 small lesions, approx 4mm each, in the frontal, temporal and parietal lobes, nothing that particular, though one is  fairly close to the cortex in the temporal lobe.  My diagnosis was simple and complex partial seizures.

I have never had a generalized seizure or tonic clonic that I know of, and my husband has never noticed anything, though he is a very sound sleeper; he has slept through fire alarms and earthquakes.  Most of the seizures used to occur only at night or anytime when sleepy, shortly before falling asleep or shortly after waking up, and I wouldn't know, of course, if one occurred during sleep. But over time, they began happening during the day or evening and on a daily basis. That's when I finally consulted a neurologist.

The seizures began about a year after I was infected with Lyme disease.  I did not get diagnosed with neurological Lyme disease until four years, after infection, after things had progressed fairly far.  I now take Lamictal.

If you have any information on seizures and orgasm (?"uteral-vaginal  tonic clonics"), I would appreciate it.

Hi Poochini,I waited to post because I read this when it caught my eye, and well, I have a weird sense of humor. I am sure no one posted to poke fun as your seizure. Especially as they are painful for you.I hope you find the help you need. But Yes this Subject line Caught my Eye Real Quick. I have Nocturnal Seizures, but No, I don't think I have Orgasms from them, I only know about them because I am told afterward. I have been told that I moan though. Hmmm.Dayna
