seizures at night

Mon, 01/03/2005 - 18:50

I have a question to ask anyone out there.  I have complex partial seizures.  I do not know what happened, but this morning I woke up and my back was killing me.  I would like to know if it is possible if someone like myself could have a seizure at night, and hurt their back by doing something to it?  Reason I ask this is because I did nothing that I can think of that would have hurt my back this much

And you only thought you were alone!

Hi everybody,

Yeah, I have 'em too.  I have come awake during some of mine, shaking and not having any control or lately biting my tongue which was only associated with grand mals before.

STRESS  is the number one cause of this for me.  A big part of my seizure control is to try to keep the stress levels low.  With so little income now and a teenage kid  this has not been easy lately.  So I have lots of these.  Better these than a grand mal at work or in public.

Tell your doc, learn what triggers your seizures if you can.  Sometimes it takes friends and family to help you remember because these things have to build up for some people.  It can have multiple causes: fighting an allergy, stress, getting too excited, that flash of light and off you go.  Example for me: stress,  using my eyes too much (reading, on the computer, needlework, etc.), polution (which is also a migrane trigger), getting sick with viruses and such.  My doc just said "It'll happen."  So I watch my triggers.  It really compromises my lifestyle more with each passing year, but I am coping.

Hi, My daughter started having night time seizures about 3 years ago, when she was 16. She takes Lamictal, 200 mg, 2x per day. I just can't find any good information out on the web about why these seizures happen only at night. Are you aware of any information?

Seizures during sleep

Hi, my 16 year old son also has seizures at night (during sleep).  The doctor said they are probably complex partial.  This started about 9 months ago and he has had one about every 4 to 6 weeks (he has actually gone almost 8 weeks now w/o one).   While feeling fortunate that they are only in sleep and so infrequently, I have also not found alot of information on this.  The neurologist isn't much help either, as she just says that they are unpredictable and he could start having them during the day at any time.  He is not on any medication at this time, however we are considering it.   The Doc said that she would lean toward putting him on meds, but we are now trying to weigh the possiblities of side effects of meds vs. seizures only every 4-6 weeks during sleep.  I guess I'm just looking for some opinions or stories from anyone in similar circumstances, particularly anyone with info of sleep seizures staying only during sleep or becoming awake seizures.  Sorry for rambling - just got a lot on my mind........
