seizures at night

Mon, 01/03/2005 - 18:50

I have a question to ask anyone out there.  I have complex partial seizures.  I do not know what happened, but this morning I woke up and my back was killing me.  I would like to know if it is possible if someone like myself could have a seizure at night, and hurt their back by doing something to it?  Reason I ask this is because I did nothing that I can think of that would have hurt my back this much

I have nocturnal seizures and they do hurt in the morning. I'm not sure if I have regular seizures but I do have serious ones every 4 - 6 weeks and when I wake up the first thing I'll do is run to the bathroom to be sick. That'll be a 5 min experience, and then I'll go back to the bedroom to collapse on my bed.

It feels like I've run a marathon and there'll be a few moments on shivering. After that I'll spend the whole day sleeping and then through the night as well. The whole experience wastes between 3 - 5 days as they'll be spent either sleeping in bed or watching daytime tv. I'll not be in the mood to talk to anyone either over the phone or face to face.

I'm on lamtical (lamotragine) 300mg in 2x150mg doses. I have memory loss, lack of concentration, tremors, and the arms and legs will randomly jerk in the evening. I get a rash on my knuckles and my hands are always drying up.

Does anyone else get any of this, or maybe a similar experience?

As I've said in an earlier post my seizures are usually nocturnal.  I wake up sore and sometimes I have hurt myself quite badly.  I usually sleep the whole next day.  I have been taking Dilantin 300mg for almost 4 years.  Since starting this I haven't hurt myself too badly, but before they had me on no medication so the seizures happened day and night.  When awake I usually felt an aura.  The reason I mention this is because even now if I've had a seizure during the night for the next few days I get that feeling.  Nothing happens, but certain sounds or sights bring on that feeling and I hate it.  It is hard to describe this to someone who has never felt an aura.
I can completely relate to feeling tired and sore for the next few days.  I'm in a bad mood, I don't do anything and then feel I guilty.  Does anyone else feel guilty for being sick?  This I would love to know.

I have felt very guilty about my seizures. I am a typical CPS. I had them as a child and then at puberty I had no more. I became middle aged and here they are again! As a child, I felt that I was BAD! I was in trouble all the time at school because the teachers did not understand about complex partials! Now, here I am again, feeling guilty. I am a grandmother scaring the dickens out of my grandkids! Also, my husband hates to discuss anything about seizures. I have them at night and have awoken places in the house that I do not know how I got there or why. And have a hard time finding my way back to bed. I usually have 3-4 during the day, but do not know about nights. I used to take Dilantin (but had to stop---liver damage). Dilantin managed the night time ones much better than Lamictal does. My friend and I have started a seizure support group at our church. We are inviting everyone all over the world! We want to do what we do right here----support each other. Morning
