I started gaining weight some years before when I started Tegretol. Keppra didn't make it worse. It did help control my night seizures... but the dosage was really touchy. When I started it at 1,500 mg a night I had horrible visions. Reduced to 1,000 mg a night (which I'm still taking) I could handle it.I also understand it is a secondary AED, generally used only in combination with another primary AED.

ccraisin, I've been on Keppra for a long time with overall good results. I'm also taking Trileptol & Zonegram. I just figured the combination of all 3 drugs is what caused my weight gain. I've been on a low carb diet and I've lost over 65 lbs! The only other side effects I've noticed is during certain times of the month my emotions are up & down. Which I'm getting use to. Good luck!
