Does Epilepsy ever totally go away?

I've read that it does. But I have my own theory on it. I believe that Epilepsy is like a Volcano – it can lie dormant for a very long time and then raise its ugly head again. We all know that some Volcanoes have been dormant for thousands of years but that they can erupt again any day. Now because us humans don't live for that long, some epilepsy may remain dormant for our whole life and others are not so lucky. I've read a few stories when the people have gone 20 years with no seizures or medication and then bang they start having seizures again and need to be put back on medication – now I'm sure they thought that they didn't have it any more! I myself have gone 7 years (between 7 and 14) without any seizures or meds and then start having them and needing meds again. I recently had another seizure my first since 1997 although that was triggered by a drug so I'm just waiting to see if that's all it was. I use to wear a Medic Alert Bracelet before and are going to start wearing it again when I get my replacement one as I lost my first one – I think everyone who has a history of seizures should wear one cause you just never know when you may have another one

I think comparing a valcano to seizures is inventive and accurate. Both have the capacity to turn your life upside down! It's actually what happened to me. No seizures for 7 years and BAM! Oh well, I think your post was most creative and wish you well.Maureen

I think that someone that has even one seizure or even febrile seizures as a child needs to know that the risk of having more later in life is greater. Someone that has had their epilepsy go into remission, needs to realize the potential for future problems. The reason being is that the seizure threshold is lower. People need to be educated of this and need to take greater care of themselves with vitamins and supplements; stress management, etc.
