My 5 years old daughter has myoclonic seizures

My daughter was diagnosed for seizures when she was 45 days old. Since then she is under medication. Doctors have tried Topomac, Sabriel, Levipil, Larpose, Gardenal, Valparin and various other drugs. Still her seizures are not under control. She gets frequent attacks( aprox 6 per day) for a duration of 10-15 seconds. All these medicines have adversely effected her liver functioning, blood purifications and mental development.
I am not unable to decide what to do next? Can you pls help me?

Re: My 5 years old daughter has myoclonic seizures

try and see if you can get a referal to an epilepsy specialist if you dont have one already. They can guide you medically. Also join a support group for people with epilepsy like this one. There is lots of hings you can learn here to help you cope day to day since were all going trough it. Good luck and hugs

Re: My 5 years old daughter has myoclonic seizures

I don't know what medications are available for your daughter to try in India but there are many more seizure medications that you may be able to try. You should have more options. My daughter currently takes Felbamate and Zonisamide. Although she still has seizures, this has been a good combination for her. Lamotrigine, Clobazam, and Klonopin, to name a few, have been useful.

Depending on the type of seizures your daughter has, there is also the Ketogenic Diet that may work when medications have failed. This diet needs to be monitored by a physician.

If your daughter isn't being seen by a neurologist or pediatric neurologist, I would suggest that you see one for they have better experience with trying different medications.

Good Luck!

Thank you Karen, my daughter is under medications suggested by a pediatric neurologist. How far can ketogenic diet help? My daughter is getting myoclonic seizures.
