Temporal Lobe Surgery

Tue, 08/06/2013 - 10:14
Hi I'm having surgery for my epilepsy on my left temporal lobe. Everyone says don't look at stuff. On the Internet but I ave because I want to know whats going to happen. The surgery doesn't spook me too much, however I am confused about how long I might be in hospital for, recovery time and what size of scar ill have. The surgeons don't give you too much info on this as their priority is the actual surgery. The Internet has ports f different answers. Has anyone else had surgery that could help me on this. I'm not bothered I'd just like an idea of what to expect. I have a feeling it will be quite a large scar. I'd really appreciate any replies. Liz

My scar start at one ear and end up on the other ....However the surgeon was fantastic instead of simply a cut he was sensitive and made it weave in the scalp , when the hair grew back no one could tell , each surgeon is different , you may want to bring this to His /Her attention , you also have to understand some people keep scars while other do not or barely , once again each one of us is different .

Do talk to your surgeon and tell him you do not want to look like frankestein  , most of all go in it with a positive attitude , you will be fine , avoid looking in a mirror when the bandages come down until the hair grow back , I did not care , even had my Drivers's license renew as is .

Even though I am in the process of receiving Epilepsy surgery, I research about it a lot. Expect to stay in the hospital for 2- 3 days and definitely expect a headache. I went to go see a neuropsychologist and he told me that the recovery time can take up to one year. I suggest getting as much information as possible so you will feel comfortable and more educated about the procedure. I hope your surgery is a success. Best wishes to you. :)
