Keppra XR - Generic Version
Mon, 10/10/2011 - 14:28I just took some prescriptions to be refilled, including one for Keppra XR. My pharmacist informed me that a new generic version of Keppra XR just came out. Normally, my neurologist only wants me to use the brand due to differences in fillers that have caused break through seizures in some patients. Of course, there is a huge cost difference. I switched from regular Keppra to Keppra XR when the Keppra generic came out because of this. It worked out well as the XR version actually works better for me.
Does anyone have any experience with Keppra XR generic?

I am taking the generic form of Keppra XR. I have no choice, I could never afford to be on the other I have medicare Medicaid and that is how I am able to pay for my meds. I am just grateful they pay for my medication at all. It seems to be helping the seizures with not that many side effects for me. I do have some of the anger/irritability issues, but I also am on anti anxiety medication too, so that seems to help. I was just diagnosed recently. So I am incredibly grateful to have something that is stopping these awful episodes in their tracks. I was told that most if not all the side effects would get better within a month. I am hoping that will be true. But I can put up with them if the medication is helping this much. I guess everyone is different. I must be lucky.

As for Keppra XR i can not talk yet. I have been on AED's for over 50 years. What most people dp not realize is that people have been taking generic meds for a very long time. I have taken over half of the nedications for epilepsy during my life.
I was taking Keppra and it was doing a great job at reducing the number of seizures I was having. It also reduced the length of time I was in the seizure and the focus time was also reduced. I went from partial seizures that lasted several minutes and focus time after those was 10-30 mintues to seizures lasting seconds with the focus time less than a minute. Keppra was expensive but the cost for a months supply was 985.00. I stayed on it for awhile before they came out with the generic. WHen seeing my neuro I always say one of his associates who kept telling me not to go on generics. Many doctors are that way. I discussed the isue with him and he wrote a script for generic. He also wanted to know if it would work. I started taking it and have had no problems since I went on it. My seizure count is down and I sould have a seizure while on the phone and the customers wouldn't know I hadit. Also some workers didn't know I had seizures while we were talking.

More people are looking and hopes are we get more responces. Also looking for alternate forums etc other than epilepsy dot com to discuss generic results. Thanks
