Keppra,side effects and behavior issues

Mon, 12/17/2007 - 20:43

My daughter is 8 yo and was diagnosised with Benign Rolandic Epilepsy this summer. The neuro put her on Keppra 100mg and I was told of the side effects of sleeplessness, agitation, agression etc. Since we started this medication the things my daughter use to enjoy and look forward to she will almost have like a panic attack when it comes to the event. She has spent at least 1-2 days a week in the principal's office and even calls from girl scout meetings that she can't be controlled and won't listen anymore. She is not the same child since using this medication. I am at my wit's end on what to do. Is anyone else having issues like this since starting medication, esp Keppra? Did you say anything to the neuro regarding this and what did they say? Any comments, etc is GREATLY appreciated!

hi all...happened to read this thread to understand what i am going through. I was diagnosed with JME when I was 10 years old and was on depakote for nearly 25 years. I switched to Keppra when I was planning to get pregnant. Blessed with two wonderful super kids and loving husband and respectable job, I cant ask more. But I am always depressed, irritable, angry, frustrated and what not. I am tired most of the time though less sleepy than depakote. I try not to show my irritability on my kids but fail to do sometimes. mood swings are uncontrollable and many times makes me think about suicide. I am a medical person and I try to get the situation under control. Though keppra controls seizures, these behavioural problems are horrible. I try to withdraw myself from everyone, this loneliness again makes me depressed. this goes in circles and I am very confused, especially it is tough to handle a 4 yr old and 1 yr old with this mental status..friends..put in your advice

Keppra and anger

I am on Keppra and like Kent I feel angry most of the time and say things to people I wish I hadn't said. It works pretty well but I'm not seizure-free.   I'm not tired in the daytime, but I have a hard time waking up in the morning and have heard others say the same. Mostly I hate being angry and irritable.

I am taking Keppra now and it sux.   I have mood swings and depression that I never had before on Trileptal.   I was changing from the Trileptal due to blurred vision and I was still having seizures but I think that the Keppra is WAY worse!!   I would rather have seizures....  Waiting for the Dr to call me back right NOW to get off this stuff !!!!    Good luck !
