Coffee stopped my Epilepsy Seizures

Hi everybody, I want to share with you all some wonderful news. I've been epileptic since i was 8 years old. Their effects produced traumatic experiences at school at the beginning, but after I started taking carbamazepine I succeeded at controlling them. At some points of my life, epilepsies disappeared, but they came back again very intensively when I was 27 years old. This year, I started analyzing the non-epileptic periods in my life and I realized that in those periods I used to drink coffee everyday. I have to say I've been taking more than 3 pills of carbamazepine per day to be free of seizures in the last years (it makes me so tired). So, one month ago I started drinking 2 cups of coffee diary and reducing my carbamazepine doses every week. Now I'm amazed that it worked, my epileptic tendencies at the morning have disappeared at all, even without taking pills. I would be glad if somebody tell me if they know about this kind of solutions or about similar cases related with coffee. Thanks

Hi Burga, The longer seizures that seemingly respond well with, or are also prevented by, coffee/caffeine, I call mine migraines, despite with, or without, headaches. Coffee/caffeine doesn't seem to influence my epileptic seizures, distinguished from migraines, to any even long term statistically noticeable degree, in any good or bad way. The rule of thumb is that coffee is bad for epilepsy: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15121141 But, rules of thumb have many exceptions, and are sometimes near totally wrong: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=caffeine+epilepsy For me, caffeine withdrawal is worse than opium withdrawal, and the benefits of caffeine outweigh the drawbacks, though I seem to go through decades long cycles with caffeine.
