Changing appearance of sons seizures

Thu, 01/17/2013 - 21:30
Wondering if anyone has seen or experienced this....my 9 1/2 yr old son has had partial complex seizures since he was 22 months old, without relationship to med changes, he has been having staring spells, during these spells, he stares at one spot, is able to blink, however is unresponsive, they last anywhere from 30 sec to 1 1/2 mins, they have been happening for about 3 weeks. I am not sure if they are absence seizures or something else....any thoughts?

Has he done anything like smacking his lips?  That sounds alot like what used to happen to me, except my wife tells me much of the time I would also smack my lips or my neck would twitch (those parts I don't remember).  It may just be one of his meds is losing effectiveness.  I was on Trileptal for 10 years but had to come off because it just stopped working.  It actually proved a blessing in disguise, because my current meds don't have as many side effects.

Hi, my son was just diagnosed today, its been a rough day.  His seizure yesterday was like that.  Fell on the floor and for about 10 seconds just looked at a spot and his tongue would move in his mouth.  His first 2 episodes were 1 month ago and they were totally different.  He stared for about 5-10 min and then could not talk for 2 hours in which time he became light sensitive and got a severe headache.  Those were called migraines.  His MRI was normal but his EEG was slightly abnormal during drowsy time.  Yesterday sealed the Dx of seizures.
