Keppra XR - Generic Version

Mon, 10/10/2011 - 14:28

I just took some prescriptions to be refilled, including one for Keppra XR.  My pharmacist informed me that a new generic version of Keppra XR just came out.  Normally, my neurologist only wants me to use the brand due to differences in fillers that have caused break through seizures in some patients.  Of course, there is a huge cost difference.  I switched from regular Keppra to Keppra XR when the Keppra generic came out because of this.  It worked out well as the XR version actually works better for me.

Does anyone have any experience with Keppra XR generic?

Keppra XR has worked the best for me of all the meds I've tried so do give it a while before you change. The sleep factor is similar for me but know he can help by using melatonin and adequate exersize. For me it's worth it to not have seizures. Where I have the problem is co$t, as my co-pay is $450 for 7 of 12 months. Hope our gov either changes generic copy requirements demanding producers to get the formula right or lowering cost of brand name for the lesser financially capable.

The other would be for 'we the people' to get more agressive tward regulation change and require AMA and FDA to release the full formulation disclosure for the good of the people! Please help me to find the correct person to contact for regulation change and quality review ratings of generics!

I am also in the same boat.. But my Dr. had told me before there was too much risk with just taking the generic brand and to stay on Keppra Xr.  Since insurance is refusing to pay any money toward the medicine, I am looking into ways to offset the $ 850 cost, the increase of about $ 560..
