How to pay for medication without insurance/Medicaid...please help.

Wed, 04/04/2012 - 21:21
I am 21 years old and up until recently I was under a "healthy kids" Medicaid program. I live in Michigan. Neither of my parents have insurance-well, my Mom doesn't and I have not spoken or heard from my dad in 4 years. Anyways, I recently lost my Medicaid because I turned 21 and had to re-apply. Well, since I make about $5500/year-literally, I work part-time in food service- and am a full-time college student, I was sure I would qualify...guess I don't. I am currently waiting to hear from my case worker and make an appeal. But now I am faced with the very real fact that I will not be able to get my medication. I have partial-complex seizures and I am absolutely terrified of what will happen when I can't have my medication. They might not be grand mals but they are still scary and very debilitating. I'm afraid of what will happen and what decisions I will have to make because I cannot live like this. I am hoping that someone could offer some advice of what to do, I'm so stressed, scared and pretty alone, as my mother has told me "I have been dealing with this since your father left when you were 8 and you're an adult now and you have to take care of it," which I understand I'm an adult, but I'm at a loss. Sorry if this sounds whiny, but like I said, very upset and any advice is much appreciated.

How to pay for medication without insurance/Medicaid

Submitted by princesskyles on Thu, 2012-04-12 - 11:10

People are giving you a lot of assistance programs. Some people have too much pride to go on social assistance, so either accept that you cant pay for you medication and go on a social assistance program or buy some healthcare/medical insurance

I dont know your story other than that you cant afford to pay for meds but buying into an actual healthcare plan may actually save you in long run. I have an Adult Health Benfit Plan where I am from and it covers more than the drugs I need, epiepsy isnt my only concern either so it really helps me out
