Vehicle that could allow people with epilepsy to take the wheel and drive

Sun, 07/17/2011 - 14:53

A company is developing a car that could someday allow blind people to drive.

It uses a sensor to measure acceleration, cameras to detect the lanes of the road, and laser range finders. Drivers are fitted with special gloves with vibrating elements that can be used to control steering and a massage chair that conveys information about the vehicle's speed and about how best to use the gas and brake pedal.

Perhaps such a vehicle could be modified to allow people with epilepsy to drive.   i.e. the driver has complete control of the vehicle until an impending seizure is detected, at which time the car computer would take over.  It would be smart enough to find a safe place to pull over and stop which could allow the driver time to recover, or it could continue on to the driver's destination.  It could send gps location to family members or authorities.

What do you think??

I think that would be great. I have never had a license before. I think this will be possible to use in the future. I just wonder how much it would cost. I highly doubt that insurance would cover this at all...we shall see
