seizures at night

Mon, 01/03/2005 - 18:50

I have a question to ask anyone out there.  I have complex partial seizures.  I do not know what happened, but this morning I woke up and my back was killing me.  I would like to know if it is possible if someone like myself could have a seizure at night, and hurt their back by doing something to it?  Reason I ask this is because I did nothing that I can think of that would have hurt my back this much

I to have injured myself due to seizures while asleep. Since taking only neuronitn and felbatol my seizures have occurred at night and only in my sleep. I have managed to injury my left shoulder, left jaw, neck and back. A few years ago I told people I thought I was comming out of what I thought  was seizure and had my dog in my arms. I to had no explanation on how I was injured. Last month I decided to get a camcorder and start filming myself while asleep. I was correct, I have am having seizures in my sleep. Now, when I review the night of sleep every movement I make I wonder if it was a seizure. So, why not buy you a camcorder and film your sleep.

Good Luck,

our daughter was recently diagnosed with p-c epilepsy.  besides what she was calling 'dizzy spells' in the day time, she's wake up feeling very sore.  after 3 days of eeg in the hospital, we saw one of these episodes on video cam and then when her medicine wasn't right, saw them ourselves.  Her's come mostly in the early morning when she's just cycling through sleep stages.  She begins to breathe hard, then her eyes open although she does not seem aware of you or of what she's doing.  Then she gets up and wanders the house for a while--10-15 min.  When she wakens, she's completely oriented although has no memory of the episode.  Often needs to sleep a lot after one.  She's on Topamax now and that has helped alot for the nighttime sz.  She's been a night owl all her life and so is working on building better sleep habits, and that too has helped. We have so much to learn and need all the info/advice we can get.

I know that I am having seizures at night because when I go to visit my mom she has witnessed at least two of them.  Also my son witnessed one when he was visiting for a week over Easter of this year.  During all three of these episodes, I had no idea that I had them, and went right back to sleep after it was over.  All three seizures happened within an hour of me going to sleep.  I would like to know how often I am having these nocturnal seizures, but since I live by myself I am unable to tell for sure.

You bring up an interesting point about filming yourself while you are sleeping.  How exactly do you do this?  I can't sleep in a room that is not dark, and if it is dark, I won't be able to see what is happening when I review the video.  I have seizures during the day as well, which have increased considerably from once every two months to once every ten days.  I sometimes have them a day apart.  I know this sounds insignificant to some of you, but it concerns me that they may get worse yet, and my doctor refuses to do a VEEG.

Thanks,
