simple partial seizures and headaches?

Wed, 03/16/2011 - 17:37
I was diagnosed with simple partial seizures a few years ago. During the seizures I would have headaches. Since going on keppra, the seizure symptoms have gone away, but I have been suffering from chronic debilitating headaches for years! The last 2 times I have had the headaches, some of my weirder seizure symptoms presented themselves. I am beginning to think the headaches are part of the seizures and that the seizures were never fully under control, but my neuro seems to think differently. He thinks the headaches are from myofascial pain syndrome or cervical dystonia...but I think their occurrences are too coincidental to be an independent issue. Does anyone know if migraines and/or headaches can be a part of these seizures? If so, what can I do about it. I've been on keppra 1000 mgs 2 times per day with 100 mgs of topamax, but still had the headaches. I am currently on 500 mgs keppra twice a day without the topamax.

I was on Keppra for years before I was switched over to Keppra XR. I take the same amount of Keppra xr as I did the Keppra. I had headaches alot with the Keppra. But last November, the dr I am now seeing switched me over to the Keppra XR and Ive seen a HUGE difference in headaches. My headaches were so bad before, that I was taking Advil Migraine Pills. I havnt had to take a migraine pill since November of last year now. If anything, check with your dr about the Keppra XR. The way my dr explained it to me, is that with Keprra XR, it doesnt mess with your medication levels, it stays even, instead of like Keppra that will have your level go up when you take it and then half way into taking it, before your next dose, your level starts to go down, causing headaches to occur. My dr also gave me a prescription card plan, that saves me $30 everytime I get my medication refilled. I was paying $150 for 6 months of Keppra. With Keppra XR, I can get 6 months for $100 plus save $30 so it only costs me $70 for a 6 month supply.

Hey guys. My mom and I are new at this and need some advice. My dad had his first seizure a year ago which lead to the discovery of a brain tumor. He has been somewhat fine until 3 weeks ago, when his MRI showed that the cancer was growing back. The past few days he's had a total of 9 seizures. One long one on Tuesday night, Three on Wednesday night, and five Thursday night. His seizures tend to occur when he is sleeping, probably in the middle of his REM cycles. I know these seizures are the natural process of the tumor growing and his brain shifting, but I'm just wondering if there is anything my mother and I can do. Should we take him to the emergency room every time he has an episode?
