Can exercise induce seizures?

Sun, 11/16/2008 - 07:00
All the doctors disagree with me because of the research out there but I gave up running last June because I had a seizure while running. I suddenly collapsed, right before I was going to cross a busy street. The doctors argue that aerobic exercise is especially good for epileptics because it normally relieves stress and depression. I agree with this but I want to be safe when getting back into it again. Once I had a small seizure on a bicycle as well. What does everyone else think? Have you had similar experiences?

cactus,

doctors say that is how they think i may have gotten mine too (encephalitis). Do you suffer from any memory issues? how are your aura issues? how often? just curious? i lost many years of memory, and continue too lose short term with each aura episode.

thx,

I have had epilepsy for over 25 years & believe me I can relate to what you are saying. I do have memory problems, with short term memory & it seems to of gotten worse since my last seizure. I do not have auras, others say I become very irritable, my eyes become glazed over & I act very confused & then I fall to the floor. I know it gets frustrating @ times & if we allow it, we isolate ourselves & it is difficult to over come. My short term memory happens a few times a day & it scares me @ times. I am especially embarrassed @ work & my boss or a coworker or people come in to see my boss & I can't remember that person had an appointment with him. My son & other family members have noticed also. We just have to hang in there & hope & pray it gets better. My doctor tells me everytime I see him, that I need to play mind games, that they have books on it to help you overcome some of these problems. But I hope that this will help you see that I and others can relate to you. GOD BLESS!

Hi All,

I've had epilepsy for well over 20 years and my doctor claims it to be controlled through Carbomaizapine. When I excercise I've had seizures and for some reason the baseline numbers slip giving a reading that should actually be higher. This is disturbing and my husband strongly believes the seizures actually do cause my level to drop significantly. My doctor then turns around and tells me I'm non-compliant.

Excercizing is a significant means of avoiding depression and staying focussed for me, I would rather take a stronger dose than give it up. Any thoughts or similar experiences?
