Can exercise induce seizures?

Sun, 11/16/2008 - 07:00
All the doctors disagree with me because of the research out there but I gave up running last June because I had a seizure while running. I suddenly collapsed, right before I was going to cross a busy street. The doctors argue that aerobic exercise is especially good for epileptics because it normally relieves stress and depression. I agree with this but I want to be safe when getting back into it again. Once I had a small seizure on a bicycle as well. What does everyone else think? Have you had similar experiences?

Friends, I think IT DEPENDS ON YOU! I stayed in a hospital for 7 days after I was diagnosed with a cyst on my brain and had a grand Mal. On 8th day I couldn't help but did some heavy weight training (as i used to do earlier), nothing happened. And remember, I was having a degenerating cyst on my brain. I've been doing light and heavy exercise ever since, and never had a seizure. Everyone has a different body, but it's us who decide to push it beyond limits. never do that. My Yoga has definitely helped me a lot. Especially the Pranayam (breathing exercise) part. I never try to overdo any exercise. I always stop when I see the things get out of control. Now, what I suggest is that When you are doing exercise and feel as if you are about to have a seizure, just stop. Do some light work. Continue some other time when you're feeling good. Sleep a lot.

I've had seizures when I've exercised, but I would always lift light weights too. My Epileptologist told me one day that lifting weights goes straight to the brain. So I just do aerobic exercises now and I don't have a seizure anymore after I work out.

     Im Margie,

I have learned to exercise moderately.  I do not exercise too much up until I get too tired.  To live a life  of moderation is my secret in life.  I have learned  to know my upcoming auras when I know Im too tired exercising.  I have done balley for 17 years and it has done me very well in recognizing auras because it has helped me to cleanse my body from all toxins ... travelling through my body.

More so, allow to comment to you exercise.   It might be too harsh for your physical system...
