Can exercise induce seizures?

Sun, 11/16/2008 - 07:00
All the doctors disagree with me because of the research out there but I gave up running last June because I had a seizure while running. I suddenly collapsed, right before I was going to cross a busy street. The doctors argue that aerobic exercise is especially good for epileptics because it normally relieves stress and depression. I agree with this but I want to be safe when getting back into it again. Once I had a small seizure on a bicycle as well. What does everyone else think? Have you had similar experiences?

YES! I always heard that exercise was good for epileptics but like you, I got seizures during my walks on the eliptical. I felt so relieved when I learned that others experienced this and not only me. I've since given up exercise and do not get my seizures as often. My mother also took a picture of me laying down by the elliptical as a result of me having a complex partial sz Hope you feel relieved that you aren't the only one. Dagmar

Yes,my first seizure was soon after I started lifting weights to become a stronger Moto-X racer my muscles still haven't gone away. But,I've had uncontrollable epilepsy for 36 years. On 6/13/10 I rode a bicycle for the second & last time of that year.I rode past a place where I swam and it still looked as it did in '60s.I thought,"I've got to see that again".I became unconscious until in an ER and a cut from the temporal down down to where upper & lower lips meet was being sutured.I still know nothing of the seizure, pain or anything else;my last memory was,"I've got to see it that again".Maybe it was allot of instant stress from that thought while I was already biking. I don't think exersize causes seizures. It's just that at some point you will have a seizure no matter what you are doing. I rode my bike for miles to school all the time. I happened ONE time to have a seizure then. I once had a seizure while getting out of the shower. Does that mean hot water or maybe not wearing clothes, lead to seizures?
