Can exercise induce seizures?

Sun, 11/16/2008 - 07:00
All the doctors disagree with me because of the research out there but I gave up running last June because I had a seizure while running. I suddenly collapsed, right before I was going to cross a busy street. The doctors argue that aerobic exercise is especially good for epileptics because it normally relieves stress and depression. I agree with this but I want to be safe when getting back into it again. Once I had a small seizure on a bicycle as well. What does everyone else think? Have you had similar experiences?

Yes it does I had a couple at the YMCA just with a light work out-----tried it again the next day---- same results--- tell the doctors to step in our bodies for one day so they can understand what we go through!!!  They think they know but they dont---

i might have replied tothis a year or two ago. now i am more certain than ever that exercise does induce them in me.i understand the reluctance to advise against exercise. but i am sure it does-no not every single time, but sometimes even if lifting something, mowing the lawn, anything. just happened yesterday. i was not even carrying anything that heavy, and i was not breathing hard. i am tired of being told what is impossible to happen. How can they say this when E is such a complicated thing and by no means anywhere near completely understood. i think one can get exercise doing little things ,nothing where one might fall. my Mom was always in great shape and never exercised-just used her body well doing ordinary tasks.

I hand balm containers, usually two a day--sometimes three+. Average weight is 30,000 lb. each. I've been doing this job full-time for years and never had a seizure at work.

Oh yeah, I work a ton of overtime. Yesterday was an overtime shift.

I also walk everywhere. Last night I walked home from the store with at least  40 lb. of groceries in what I call my "little old lady" cart. My dog gets walked too.

I  have a home gym. Because of my job, I primarily focus on keeping my abdominal muscles strong;I  need a good back.

I don't believe that  exercise induces seizures.
