Breakthrough seizure caused by lack of sleep

Sun, 10/12/2008 - 02:58
Due to some of the pressure I am under I do not get enough sleep. Last night was one of those examples where I chose to work extra and it caused me to have a breakthrough seizure after 6 weeks of having no seizures whatsoever. Is it really important to tell my neurologist about this? He will only prescribe more medicine for me or recommend that I have surgery, neither one of which I want. What is the best thing to do?

I'm going to add this comment.Just about all my sez are nocturnal. Two things have helped. One doc had me hooked up to a blood sugar monitor which showed that my blood sugar level was dropping off at night. She thought low enough to trigger a sez the other doc did'nt seem think so.Anyway my niebor is a nurse and she suggested I eat some natural peanut butter at bedtime it has helped. My wife asked the doc if maybe I should try takeing a mild sleeping pill at bed time that has helped also.I don't like taking even more med cause I'm draging my butt around enough now.So I'm breaking the pills in half that's helped. How can anyone want to be a drug addick? They think that things intterping my sleep patterns are my trigger at night.I'm never giving in and I'm never giving up.

One thing, as many have mentioned is sleepleness and stress. It is my expirience that stree promotes a lack of sleep and when I don't get AT LEAST 7 hours I find myself for the first hour after awaking dropping things out of my hand. I find that until my mind planes out and gets settled that I'm suceptable to that-I have to make slow movements until my brain wakes up.

While we can have our eyes closed and seem to be getting rest we must reach the level of REM sleep for it to truely be effective!

Fellow epeleptics NEVER discount quality if sleep nor the duration!!

Hi, my name is Raiben. I'm somebody that has seizures. 1 day I wake up restless the next thing I know is that I'm having a seizure with my face on the floor and my nose thorn cause it hit something hard, then I go to the hospital then get 3 stitches over my nose. All I want to say is that people who knows how hard it is to live an everyday life with this kind of problems, stay safe and strong. It's hard, but it doesn't mean that we can't live our lives the way we want it to be. I'm somebody who has seizures. Take care everybody -Raiben Chavarria
