Seizures after Sex

Tue, 05/27/2008 - 16:27
I've had seizures since I was 9 and am 36 now needless to say that means through out my entire sex life and 15 years of marriage. But, last night for the first time ever I had a partial complex seizure after sex with my wife and wondered if this had happened to anyone else and if a doctor had told them anything about it?

This has been a thread before. Strong orgasms triggered my complex partials, it was perhaps one of the first triggers I recognized. I would mostly start to get quick muscle jerks, and if it wasn't to strong it would take my partner a while to even realize I was seizing and not putting on a show! I would be unresponsive for a moment, like my brain had gone quiet, I would feel the pressure someone else mentioned as well, or ants crawling down the back of my neck and then it was gone. If I was tired...there's no way I could have told the differrence ;)

There were times I was more prone to it than others. Don't know why. But I don't see why this would be so odd. Sex is such a harrowing experience for your body! Blood flow changes, hormones go out, heart rate increases, oxygen flow...you hold your breathe maybe by accident, any combination could be making it happen.

And no, doctor has never said anything about it. I have mentioned it but they shrug. What's there to say?

I started having this problem also a few years ago, and I talked to my neurologist about this and she sent me to see a urinologist, her and my urinologist came to the same conclusion that the reason for me to have the seizure while having or right after me having sex was more than likely because of me getting overly excited or having to much concern for the other person while having sex.Meaning "too concerned about pleasing the other person" or "being to worried that I would have one while having sex" or "stressing myself out too much worried about having the sex". And other things relating to the sme things. They both told me the best thing I could do is to try not too think about it so much and just engoy pleasing the other person and yourself before before and while actually having the sex." This and talking with my wife about it has actually helped me with it greatly and it hardly happens anymore. So basicly, dont stress yourself out about it, and enjoy yourself and try not too worry about it!!!!!!!!!!! And beive it or not, it works!!!!!!

Stress is the cause of your seizure.  Your neurologist might prescribe some lorazepam (Ativan).   I only get to take it after my 1st seizure to prevent clusters, but talk to your neuro.
