Lamictal and birth control pills

Mon, 03/20/2006 - 22:38
I was just wondering if anyone was on brith control as well as Lamictal. My neurologist said that there is no interaction, but I came across 2 studies on the interaction that stated that it decreased Lamictal concentration by almost half. I'm not sure if I should be worried to start the birth control.

Hi, Im Ashley. Im 20 years old and have had seizures since 5th grade. I just switched from depakote to lamictal when I was 17. I take 200mg at night and 200 in the morning too. I chose not to take the pill, I chose the NuvaRing, it has a higher percentage against pregnancy. It is very effective. I haven't had any negative side effects with the Lamictal/NuvaRing combo. And my previous boyfriends couldn't even feel the ring during intercourse. Your period is regular, short, and light. Also they have IUDs now. If you don't know, they are placed inside of you by your OB/GYN. You cant feel it, except for the first day or so, there is cramping. But it is non-hormonal and there are 3 different ones. One lasts for 3 years, 5 years, and 10 years. If you do want to get pregnant, you go to the doctor and they just remove it. Piece of cake. You need to do what is best for you, not your boyfriend. I think he would be much happier if you DID NOT get pregnant, than if you did, especially this young. It would seriously screw your future plans up. If you have any more questions, you can email me at ashleyncollege@yahoo.com.

Good Luck,

Ashley
