Can seizures cause vomiting?

Mon, 04/26/2010 - 11:16

My son will be 4 in July and has been on Trileptal for seizures since about 18 months. He never had severe seizures.  He would just pause, roll his eyes, and be fine after that.  They never caught one on an EEG, but the episodes stopped when he started on medication.

Recently the insurance company started refusing to cover brand name trileptal and switched us to generic, with the pediatric neurologists ok. Not sure if that's related or not but thought I'd mention it.

2 times in the last 2 weeks, he has woken up in the middle of the night, cried, and when we went to see what was wrong he threw up.   This morning he threw up 10 minutes after waking for the day.

I'd think it was just a stomach bug, except that he seems completely normal, happy, and not sick at all for the rest of the day.

This made me wonder if it could be seizure related.  He's not verbal enough to explain any seizures side effects, so for all I know he could be having a seizure in the middle of the night and vomiting afterwards.

Has anybody had vomiting as an after effect of a seizure?

Can seizures cause vomiting/Anyone taking Keppra and Epilim ??

Submitted by Calyn on Mon, 2010-04-26 - 12:19

My son  is  9 years old and is taking Keppra 250mg since Mac 2010. An additional med prescribed by his neurologist  besides taking Epilim (Depakote) 200mg since 2007 as his seizures deteriorated recently.

After taking these two medicine, I notice that my son would vomit water right after each of his seizures.  It is not bubble saliva but purely water. I believe he might be feeling dizzy after each attack. As he is a special child with no speech yet, I really dun know how his body react to these two meds.

My son is having problems with muscle coordination (difficult to walk or move about), extreme sleepiness/weakness/dizziness. As it is only one month since taking Keppra,  he is still under observation with regards to the effectiveness of these two meds. Anyone taking these two meds ??? Pls share...

Thank you.

Regards

My son is 14 and we just found out that the vomiting that he is having is most likely from his seizures..he has numbness and also he has seizures that he is really dizzy and they think that that is why he is vomiting it does not happen all the time just when he has more than one dizzy seizure a day and then it makes his stomach upset....I hope that this helped..

Yes I've experienced vomiting after having a seizure and migraines body pains and extreme weakness. I believe it is the after effects of having the seizure.
