suddenly falling asleep during the day

Tue, 05/26/2009 - 21:53

I have partial seizures that usually involve deja vu and the occasional jamais vu.  Sometimes I experience depersonaliztion, but thankfully not much lately.

I am wondering if anyone else fights to stay awake when they are inactive.  I have times when I suddenly just can't stay awake.  I will nod off after fighting to stay awake and battling the yawns for awhile.  There are times when I even have a dream.  I don't stay asleep long but I struggle to stay awake and can close my eyes and be out in a flash.  The only thing I have found that helps is getting up and moving around.  This usually happens when I am inactive and relaxed.  Meetings, reading groups (I'm a teacher), reading, doing paperwork, watching tv, etc.....  It is getting to the point where I dread reading with the children in class.  I just can't stay awake if it lasts more than about 15  minutes.

Please write back if you experience this too.

Thanks!

Wow, I have this too. I didn't know that this could be an actual seizure. In fact, I've spent the past few days in a fog and yesterday ( I know it sounds silly) I laid in the bed semi-conscious for about 3 hours holding on to the baby's foot so he wouldn't fall, while my older son played with him. He would shake me periodically and try to wake me up but I felt like I was under a blanket. I just couldn't come out of it. This has happened a lot throughout my life and I've just accepted that I'm a sleepyhead :). But it's weird, because It's very heavy, like you're drugged or something. I also have the boredom-induced sleep. Anything repetitive. I had a hard time in lecture-type classes in high school and my son likes me to make up stories. I enjoy it, but I find myself getting really tired and saying crazy things! ;)

I have just been at my Dr because of the amount i have been sleeping 10-12hrs at nite then dosing during the day , for a while i was struggling to sleep at nite when it was a case i was up till about 5-6am and this went on for ages but i have been sleeping so much for ages and like yourself i have to keep myself up so i do not fall asleep but even if i sit with a cuppa i can go to sleep for any length of time .

It ends up you dread going to bed so your not the only one do not worry . xx Julie xx
