I'd like my son to start weaning off his 800mg ER 400mg am and 400mg pm Lamictal and his on Topamax 100mg am and 100 my pm for seizures, he's 22 and started having seizures at 16, he had them frequently but now only 1 last year and not on in over a year. I'd love to start him wearing but he doctors could care leas if he's on them for ever. Any suggestions from you all? I'm worried about long term side effects, liver and kidney and also hair loss....he also is very sleepy all the time. Any stories would be helpful? Vickie and Roger from Michigan

I switched from Dilantin to Lemictal 5 years ago but I increased the Lemictal  before decreasing the Dilantin and it was a year long process and I ended in hospiltal once , and today I'm on 800mg,  it is not easy but it is better than thaking Dilantin for 30 years and I was very scare to switch and I did not even wanted to I worked for mebut thanks my Dr. who "forced" me to do it because  you are better  without Dilantin if you can .
