Last night I was laying in bed with my eyes closed and all of a sudden on the left side of my brain it felt just like an electrical shock.I jumped and there was a tingling sensation down my right arm.Didn't last very long.A few seconds later same thing but not quite as intense.Has anyone ever had this happen to them?Or am I just going crazy?

Hello, on and off for the past few years I've experienced episodes similar to those explained here. It always only happens when I am asleep, or when trying to fall asleep. My body starts to get this strange feeling through out it and then my head starts to thrash about and twitch. I get this electrical shock feeling in my head. I feel paralized. I try to wake up but can't, I've been able to open my eyes and see my room and my husband and have tried talking to him to get him to help me sit up, wake up, but I can't. Then when I finally am able to wake up, I am afraid to go back to sleep because it usually happens again. I have periods where I don't have this happen for months and then it will just start up again. I have no symptoms when I am awake, just when I am asleep or trying to go to sleep. It's very scary. I don't know what is wrong with me. Unfortunatly I lost my job back in May and I have only been able to work part time at walmart with no benefits so right now going to the doctor is impossible. I've read somewhere where I should go to a sleep clinic to be monotored, but like I mentioned they don't happen every night. It's impossible to know when I am going to have a bad night with these episodes. It's been helpful reading that so many have similar symptoms, even if what I am going through is different.~Chel

Well I just joined this site tonight and I hope someone reads this to give me a little insight. I have no history of seizures and haven't been to the dr for this yet.  But I googled my symptoms and it brought me here. About 3 weeks ago I got the lightning bolt sensation in my head while I was taking a nap on my mom's couch. It was like a paralyzing pain in the right side of my head. It kept coming in waves but I was conscious and awake, could see the room around me, but it was like I was paralyzed. I even tried yelling out for my mom but couldn't. To me it felt like it lasted around 10 minutes but who knows how long it really was. I kept telling myself just get up just get up. But I couldn't. When it was all over I was soooo exhausted I couldn't get up. I mean when something scary like that happens the first thing you would do is jump up and be like what the? But I was so physcially drained I couldn't even get up. I fell back asleep for another hour. Then I had a weird lingering headache for days. So I decided it was weird and ignored that it even happened. But then it happened again yesterday and again today. It only happens when I'm sleeping and so far it's only happened when I'm napping. Today's was even weirder because there was this loud buzzing noise too. It was like a loud humming buzzing noise that got louder and louder and softer, in waves like the pain in my head.  And now I have that headache again. The pain is always on the right side. I've been suffering from migraines for years which oddly enough are almost always on the right side of my head as well. I've been on Topomax 50mg twice daily for over 2 years now. I hope that isn't whats causing this. I've never had this problem before on the medication. Do you think this is something I should seek out a neurologist for?
