Smoking marijuana and drinking

Thu, 02/07/2008 - 01:51
I was just reading on this website all of the forums about drinking and smoking cigarettes and how bad they are for you. It didnt say anything about weed and I smoke weed maybe once a week or once every two weeks and is it bad for having seizures? Also if you drink maybe two beers to three beers once a weekend is that bad?

i have temporal lobe epilepsy after being prescribed the ssri antidepressant cipramil. my psychiatrist prescribed it for depression & went on holidays for 6 months & left me to rot. i started getting a sickening de ja vu, then hallucinating - i saw god the devil angels (but i'm atheist) they spoke to me & told me what would happen (the future). i know this sounds really loopy! . i had nocturnal seizures. i ground my teeth, i couldn't recognise faces! i was a zombie. i stopped drinking completely (i never drunk much anyway). it wasn't my choice, something in my head just can't stand the thought of being drunk or hungover. the worst thing is when i get my "aura" (de ja vu) i become incredibly aggressive & get into too much trouble. when it happened i just turned around shut my mouth, went home & locked myself indoors until the next day.

when my phyciatrist returned he FREAKED OUT at what was wrong with me weaned me off the cipramil & i NEVER went back to him again.

But the seizures didn't stop, they got worse. i went to 4 different phyciatrist 2 neurologist & a psychologist until about 4 years later i got a good phyciatrist who diagnosed my epilepsy (though looking back now i've learnt about it i seem to have "classic" symptoms of TLE), & i now take sodium valporate. & IT'S WORKING!!

but i should be dead !!!

a couple of months after i went off the cipramil a friend offered me pot, i declined. next time at his place i had an "aura" & went to leave. he offered me pot again, the aura leaves me confused & unable to communicate properly. i tried it. i immediately felt better! my mood was relaxed. i had no seizures or auras for a couple of days. i was able to communicate better. i would usually get a few auras a day if i had one in the morning. but if i smoked pot after the first one i wouldn't get another that day.

Pot has %100 helped ME & SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FURTHER NOT DENOUNCED BECAUSE PRIEST & RELIGION ASSOCIATE IT WITH THE DEVIL!! (that's my rant) why has a drug used for centuries to treat epilepsy not been evaluated? because drug companies can't charge? science should never be dictated to by the religious, or you will just chase "myths".

my inability to deal with people after an "aura" or seizure was very aggressive & very nasty, like i was a completely different guy to someone who spent 20yrs doing hotel reception. i should have been killed!! i probably came close to being bashed to death several times for being rude & aggressive. the pot also stopped this happening. if i had an aura i could "fix" its' mood swing with pot.

this is true - where else can i give my experiance to help others? it's no "soapbox" (what a low thing to say about something YOU have no DIRECT experiance with when someone tries to share there's') if your de ja vu is unbearable & causes mood swings, talk to your doctor about whether he thinks it may help. NEVER SELF MEDICATE, & stick to the advice he gives you.

this worked for me & may NOT work for you!! IT MAY MAKE THINGS WORSE. but we will never know unless we share our experiences, debate it & investigate it. I think one day something will be found, but i truly believe it will take an atheist to find it!

i mean why is thalidomide still prescribed to women for disease (cancer i think) when we know of the birth defects it creates (& certain anti-epileptics too). BUT not look at something that if ingested has few documented side-effects?

hope this helps. rejjie

Just to comment on a few things. Marijuana has been and continues to be looked at for positive as well as negative effects on seizures, other neurological disorders and other health problems. There are no conclusive results that I am aware of right now. If someone wants to speak authoritatively on this topic, please cite  studies, not just an individual opinion. There are many reports of it helping some people and worsening seizures in others. And, as many have cited in this thread, the use of illicit drugs can lead to other substance abuse problems and is illegal in many places.

While this is a forum for sharing experiences, let's limit the rants and attacks on what people write about their opinions please.

I have use marijuana to control my epilepsy for almost seven years now. Years of meds and doctors trying this pill and that one never worked as well as weed. BTW you don't have to smoke it. I bake and drink tea as well.......sez ya later....x

Here's a study by the germans.

German Studies Support Use of Marijuana Extracts for Epilepsy, Pain
October 6, 2003

Two new German studies provide more evidence for the medical uses of marijuana. According to the BBC News Online, researchers at the Max-Planck Institute – who have been seeking ways to prevent epileptic seizures – report that “natural brain chemicals which resemble cannabis extracts can interrupt a process which can trigger a seizure.” The compounds act to reduce the excitability of brain cells common in epilepsy sufferers. Max-Planck researchers called the cannabis compounds a “promising therapeutic target” in the search to develop effective drugs to fight epilepsy.

In the second study, chronic-pain researchers at the Hannover Medical School found that “a synthetic version of one of many marijuana compounds safely reduced chronic nerve pain without impairing thinking and behavior.” Previous research into the compound, CT-3, has already shown it to be an effective anti-inflammatory and pain reducer.

There are numerous published research papers that suggest that marijuana has medical value in treating patients with epilepsy and chronic pain. In addition, there has been a great deal of research to suggest that medical marijuana can help treat other serious illnesses such as AIDS, glaucoma, cancer, and multiple sclerosis. Despite this evidence, overwhelming public support, and laws in nine states allowing the use of marijuana for medical purposes, Congress has refused to recognize marijuana's medicinal value and protect patients from federal prosecution.

You can add Michigan as a state for medical marijuana...yea yea yea
