Seizure recovery time

How long do you take to recover from a seizure?

I have suffered from epilepsy (grand mal) for 40 years - about 1 seizure a year (lucky me!) But over the last 3 years my wonderful work colleagues have expressed increasing anxiety that I'm coming back to work too early following a seizure. When I was young and sprightly (Ha!), I'd have a 3-minute tonic-clonic seizure, regain full consciousness after half an hour, get taken home, sleep it off, and back to work after 1 day's absence. Again - lucky me.

My work is extremely complex, considerative and quasi-judicial. I work for my government trying to justify to tribunals and criminal courts why a particular decision is justified. The legislation involved is extremely complicated, but although I practice law in a specialised field I am not a qualified lawyer. Without blowing my own trumpet I'm very good at my job - or so I'm told. [I don't like saying so, but I think it may be relevant to the question.]

Two years ago my wife finally convinced me that at least one day off was a must. Nevertheless, my colleagues tell me that "when you have had a fit, for several days after, your sharp brain seems slow in response."

I'd be very grateful to hear the views of fellow sufferers (or those close to them). I know that epilepsy varies from individual to individual, but when do you go back to work? When do you feel fully recovered? Does the recovery period increase with age?

Thanks for reading this.

Iain (aged 53 and a bit - <GRIN>)

Seizure recovery time

Ive had epilepsy my entire life, 22 currently. When I have a Grand Mal, depending on severity, Ive had it range from getting up immediately, asking what the hell happened, and then sitting for a couple minutes to gather myself and then I'm good, OR, when its a bad and lengthy one, it can take days, up to a week or more before i'm back to my 'normal' self. which is to say, like most of you on the board, tired, depressed, etc. I can only assume it differs from person to person, and from seizure to seizure.

    Hi.................YES i SEE THAT TOO.????

brnagain.... I knew that was,nt going to look good.

A test drug I take has reduced the length of gmal szs, so the physical side is less

But mentally ??I still drag for around for 7 days.

Proof is my  1st post, that I see now as "lacking" lol

I used to do memory tests following some of these ,duh I remembered that lol

but they mostly gave me migraines.

I see now why this case was approved so quickly lol because I was going through these tests and about 10,-30 szs a mos for the 6 mo,s prior to this wow  I had no recovery time long enough to remenber  simple things ,let alone complex memory tests lol. I did not know my ph. no. from day to day .lol.   recovery time ??  WHEN ?   Rick

Hey everyone , I suffered a tonic clinic this morning following several peti mal seizures just before hand , comming round totally unaware of where I was ( I thought I was in hospital) not at home :/ , I was put to bed , it was a great struggle as every time I fit I seam to pull every muscle in my body and also I'm left with the head ache from hell! 7 hours later my headache had subsided somewhat , and I started to notice the injuries suntanned during my fall ,, a sprained wrist and a whack to my head :( , so recovery time , to me depends on the fit and also any injuries caused too :) I'm guessing I'm on 3-6 days with the exception of my wrist , hope this helps anyone :)
