Breakthrough seizure caused by lack of sleep

Sun, 10/12/2008 - 02:58
Due to some of the pressure I am under I do not get enough sleep. Last night was one of those examples where I chose to work extra and it caused me to have a breakthrough seizure after 6 weeks of having no seizures whatsoever. Is it really important to tell my neurologist about this? He will only prescribe more medicine for me or recommend that I have surgery, neither one of which I want. What is the best thing to do?

I aslo have found with out a regualr sleep pattern and schedule the meds I have tried have on many occasions caused a lot of harm and made this worse many times . ie more partials mostly and some outright rejection of the drug with bad side effects .

Hi Curt, What your son had done is exactly like me - getting into the habit of staying up late and not getting enough sleep. I'm on a pretty high dose of Depakote ER - 2000 mg per day in addition to Tegretol and Zonegram. My neuro has warned me that the next step for me may be surgery. I think it is important, as you said, to get more rest and see how it goes from there. Thanks for taking the time to give me your advice - I appreciate it!

I have the exact same problem. I got the habit of sleeping really late and when i have to wake up in the morning sometimes thats when problems start. I will usually get minor shaks in one arm and then the shakes get more aggressive until the seizure kicks in. I see you mentioned something about surgery. What kind of surgery are you talking about and how can that help a condition like this one ?
