My epilepsy was (FINALLY) diagnosed in 1986 when I was 25, as Complex Partial (Temporolimbic), using N.P. leads. In 2004 a nasopharyngeal/low temporal 16 lead EEG showed epileptic seizure activity in the amygdala hippocampus...so yes, I have Hippocampal seizures. I have not had surgery; I am currently taking Lamictal 200mg x2, Keppra 500mg x2, and Provigil 150mg morning only. My most recent MRI showed 5 brain lesions that had never showed up before...also "changes in" small vessel ischemic disease (very interesting, since "changes in" has to mean it detected OLD and new,  though the Doc in 1997 insisted I had not had a stroke despite all evidence to the contrary!).  I am currently being evaluated for MS; the doctor who treats my epilepsy documented my clinical history spanning 1986-95, 2004-present . . . my deteriorating neurological condition prompted him to refer me to someone considered to be the top MS neurologist in town; this guy did a surface only EEG and proclaimed I didn't have epilepsy (though he doubled my Keppra; isn't that ironic), and dismissed the 5 brain lesions as "unimportant", and did not mention the reference to "small vessel ischemic disease" at all (I had to get my own copy of the MRI report to find that out). My epilepsy has never shown up with only scalp electrodes, but this doc says nasopharyngeal EEG's are no longer being done (in 2004 the neurologist I was seeing then ordered the equipment especially for me, but he has since retired). I have been on Medical Leave (from my job of 30 years) since May 23 . . . my epilepsy doc says to forget the "top MS" (ha!) guy . . . my previous multiple N.P. EEG data, clinical history picture, and current MRI report proves I will not be able to return to work, and (thank God I qualify) I must apply for Medical Disability Retirement from my workplace, then SSMDI also. I could write a book (my doctor actually wants me to do that eventually anyway-lol) here, but I am unsure what you are asking for (?), if it be traded tales of experiences (horror stories), treatment option discussions, repercussions of epilepsy on female issues (in my own life or in general), the ignorant public conception of Complex Partial Seizure activity behaviors as psychiatric problems as opposed to physical/organically caused   . . . ?   You are welcome to E-mail me directly at Eight121960@yahoo.com

Hi and yes, I have probably your same or similar type of seizure. Begins in the hippocampus and goes to amygdala and then spreads everywhere in brain. (So no surgery for me). I have had hundreds of petit mal and only two grand mal in my life. Been on almost every drug you could name, right now Lyrica is working alright, but my mother ( being an anti drugs person) just told me to ask my doc about medical marijuana. OMG! I tried to email you, but it did not go through. Thought about writing the book myself. We should chat - my email is floodcolleen@gmail.com. Cheers! Colleen Flood. :)
