keppra and psychotic behavior

Tue, 09/09/2008 - 12:36
my daughter is 11 and just started having grand mal seizures in may 08. in june she was put on keppra 500mg twice a day. a couple weeks ago she started having  what looked like focal seizures. but the drs say its not a seizure. they think its behavioral or maybe even hallucinations. if anyone has had this happen to them please help me. i and the neurologists have taken her off but im worried that the keppra may have caused permenant damage. she also had trouble walking and needed a wheelchair to get around as i cannot carry a 106lb child!

From what i have experienced the drowsiness is normal and should subside after some time. However, i also had severe issues with the moodiness and rage and all that stuff. I was on Dilantin for a short time but seized, and switched to depakote for about 6 years but had a couple seizures and side affects that were putting my overall health in danger. I sought the advice of an epileptologist as my neuro seemed indifferent to my concerns about the meds. I started keppra in november and got up to a full dose of 1500 mg a day. After about two months i started having rage and anger issues(which is not typical behavior for me) so i went and saw my dr and they are putting me on zonisamide. My advice would be to seek the advice of an epileptologist as they are a lot more knowledgeable about seizure disorders/medications than a regular neurololgist.

Did they do an MRI? I would have them do an MRI if they did not and have them check for Chiari Malformation.
