seizures at night

Mon, 01/03/2005 - 18:50

I have a question to ask anyone out there.  I have complex partial seizures.  I do not know what happened, but this morning I woke up and my back was killing me.  I would like to know if it is possible if someone like myself could have a seizure at night, and hurt their back by doing something to it?  Reason I ask this is because I did nothing that I can think of that would have hurt my back this much

HI JEREMY, I HAVE COMPLEX PARTIALS, AND HAVE MANY SEIZURES WHILE I AM SLEEPING. I KNOW THAT THEY WAKE ME UP, BUT NOT ALL THE TIME BECAUSE SOMETIMES I WAKE UP POSTICTAL. AND WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT HURTING YOUR BACK, I AM WONDERING IF THAT IS WHY I HAVE SO MUCH MORE PAIN THAN I USED TO. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY A COUPLE OF DEGEREATIVE DISEASES COULD HAVE GOTTEN SO MUCH WORSE, SO FAST, AND I THINK THE SEIZURES MAY BE THE REASON. I KNOW I JERK AROUND A LOT, BECAUSE AS FAR AS I KNOW, THOSE ALWAYS WAKE ME UP. SOMETHING I AM WONDERING, SINCE MOST REPLYING HERE HAVE C/PS: I WAS TOLD CPS ENCOMPASS ABSENCE, SIMPLE, PARTIAL, CPS, PETIT MALS(C?)  AND T/CS. IS THAT WHAT YOU WERE TOLD, OR ANYONE ELSE WHO RESPONDED? GOOD LUCK, JEREMY. HOPE YOU GET THOSE UNDER CONTROL. JAN

My husband has both complex and partial seizures.  When we had been married about 7 months he started having grand mals in his sleep.  He hurt his back way bad during one of them; just from the seizure alone, and wasn't even able to get out of bed the next morning bc/ of the pain.  We went to the chiropractor and were able to fix most of the damage, but his back still hurts him a little, and he has to do exercises for it every day.

So it's totally possible to get back problems from nocturnal seizures.

My daughter is two years old and was diagnosed with epilepsy last November - no family history on either side and an MRI came back negative for any brain tumors.  She is on Trileptal, but as she goes through growth spurts the medication dosage is not effective enough to keep her seizures at bay until it is readjusted and builds up to a therapeutic level in her system.  Her seizures are also precipitated by any sickness she may have - common cold, stomach virus, etc.  Currently she has been having clusters of three or more seizures at a time - grand mal, tonic clonic - and I have had to give her valium to prevent more from occurring.  I am a nurse and personally knew someone that died in their sleep from having a seizure - so I have been worried sick to let my daughter sleep in her crib by herself.  I do not want her to go through a seizure without me being by her side comforting her, protecting her - I know this is not always possible, but I want to do all in my power to keep my baby safe.  I am wondering if anyone knows if someone manufactures pad sensors that I could put under my daughters mattress so that if she were to have a seizure in her sleep I would be aware of it.

Thanks -- Concerned Mother
