Changing from Topamax to Lamictal

Wed, 02/27/2008 - 15:29
I am now taking topamax 200 mg a day my doctor is changing me to lamictal 200 mg a day. I have complex partial szs, and I am very nervous about the change, I am a very nerous person anyways and I know one of the side effect of the topamax is nervouness, he said the lamictal may help with this. So I was just wanting to see how anyone else is doing on this med and any feed back, I'm 33 and was just dx in May of 2007 with this so still kinda new, this will be my first med switch, and I'm not sure what to expect : ( but hoping it will be a good one. Thanks Stephanie

I went from tomapax to lamictal. I switched because the of memory problems. Lamictal worked great for me seizures, but I got "the rash". Good luck switching medications. After I got off topamax, I havn't found anything that has worked for me since, so I am going back on it. I hope that Lamictal works for you.

Lamictal works really well for me.  I have no more seizures (knock on wood!) with this medication.  The only thing is muscle twitches (or myoclonic seizures?) which are mild, and the rash.  The good news is, I've been on Lamictal since Jan. '07 and have almost no more rashes.

I'm seeing a chiroprachor to see if being adjusted will help the twitches.  Even if it doesn't, I feel better!

Hi Stephanie,

I have been on numerous drugs over the years, and find the use of Lamictal very helpful.  I take 200mg twice daily.  A side effect I've experienced is insomnia.  I kind of just take it as expected now and handle it better when expecting it.  I do get occasional seizures, usually twice a month, but just nocturnal ones since surgery which was 12 years ago.  Good luck and do keep us posted how all goes.
