Hi I am in the process of withdrawing keppra and nothing to introduce. I am just curious if there is anyone on this site who has already done been through it and what sort of side effects did they have during the process? All advice welcomed and thanks in advance. Teri

My daughter is also going off Keppra at this time,  She has been seizure free for 18 months, and since her EEG and MRi were all normal, her doctor is trying to wean her off.  He said to do lower doses from 6 ml 2x a day to 4 ml 2x a day for 2 weeks and then 2 ml 2 x a day for two weeks then stop completely.  She was scared to go that drastic, so she is lowering a ml per dose per week.  I would love to know what to expect.  I am noticing alot of mood changes, and I mean mood changes, she will go from a rage, to crying to happy within 5 minutes.  Would love to know what others have experienced while withdrawing from Keppra.  Thank you

My daughter is 9 years old and she has been seizure free for almost four years now.  We had a EEG on May 29, and the doctor said that everything looked normal.  He said that now was a good time to wean her off of the Keppra.  We were all so excited.  It has now been a little over three weeks since her last dose, and a few weeks ago her anxiety stated to increase. She was so scared that she would have another seizure.  A few days ago her mind was just racing. She was having so many emoitions coming out.  My breaking point was when my sweet little 9 year old girl was having feelings of hurting herself.  We contacted her doctor which is an hour away from our home, and they could not see her.  They suggested that we come to the hospital's ER. Her doctor is in the same building.  They said that they were going to get to the bottom of what was going on with her.  Instead the ER doctor's blew us off.  They made us feel like we were criminals. That someone or something had caused her to have an emotional break.  By this day she seemed much better than the previous day, when she had made the harmfull comments.  The doctors could see that she was a happy child.  She was just on an emotional rollercoaster.  They did not do any bloodwork, or CAT scan to rule out anything else that could be causing this to happen. If there is anyone out there that can help me understand  what is going on with her please email me @ smith.elisha@insightbb.com
