Keppra and Alcohol

Mon, 02/04/2008 - 13:49

I am a healthy 28 year old male who just had his first 2 seizures on consecutive days.  I went to the hospital and had an MRI and an EEG.  The EEG came back abnormal so the DR. put me on Keppra 1000mg a day.  I am a social drinker who drinks regularly.  The Doctor said I shouldn't drink and if I do I can only have one drink.  Is this true?  I am not an alcoholic but the thought of never being able to get drunk again is fairly upsetting to me.  Does anyone have any advice?  What happens if I do drink?

 Thanks

doctor have to say " if you drink, take only one - no more". if people is epilepsy doctor say no alkohol, if you eat keppra or depracine or something doctor say no alkohol if you have to take , take only one.

keppra and alkoloh mean if you take pils and alkohol - one keppra and 5 drinks is you body more keppra (maybe 2) and alkohol is 6-10 drinks. and /or you take only one and you have very bad feel then.

I am currently on this perscription and I am also a social drinker.  I had to practically pry it our of my doctor to see if I could even have alcohol, but he told me that I could and I have had a few nights where I had a little to much other nights where just the occasional drink.  I have been fine every time but maybe you doctor has a nother reason for saying what he did about alcohol and it might be because you are so new to the medication and he just wants to monitor you for a little.

I like wine with dinner every night, usually a couple of glasses.  I take 2000 mg of Keppra daily for TLE and have never had a problem with it.
