What a day!

Hi everyone,

What a day I've had... had my promotion and obtained my blue belt in karate! Next is brown belt then black! Never thought I could do all this, but it's great exercise and stress reliever, as well as lots of fun. I do think it helps my health as well. Did you know there's research on effects of yoga and tai chi on epilepsy, and recently saw an article on pilot study of karate in children with seizures. I expect the data will come back showing improvements in many ways. So many of the benefits are helpful in people dealing with epilepsy - self confidence, respect, discipline, coordination, physical fitness, improved mood, and so on....

So, if you're not very active, and want another way to gain control over your life and see if it can help your seizures, consider the martial arts! Of course, get clearance from your neurologist first.  If you are doing martial arts of any kind, I'd love to hear how it's helping you.

Take care everyone and keep moving!!

HI EPI! GOOD FOR YOU! GOT YOUR BLUE BELT!

I HADN'T HEARD THAT KARATE COULD HELP EPILEPSY, BUT IT DOESN'T SURPRIZE ME. THERE IS A WHOLE LOT MORE TO KARATE THAN KICKING AND USING YOUR ARMS. IT TAKES A HIGH DEGREE OF INNER STRENGTH, AND IS, TO ME ANYWAY, A FORM OF MEDITATION. TAI CHI........YES, I KNOW THAT HELPS. SAME SORT OF THING, LESS ACTIVE. I HAVE WANTED TO TAKE TAI CHI FOR A LONG TIME, AND IF MY BODY STARTS COOPERATING, I WILL!!! I USED TO DO YOGAA LOT, WHEN I WAS YOUNGER, AND I DO MISS NOT BEING ABLE TO DO IT NOW.

FOR NOW, MEDITATION IS IT...........AND THAT IS RECOMMENDED BY DOCTORS FOR SEIZURES ALSO.  SO WHATEVER DEGREE OF ACTIVITY THAT ONE IS CAPABLE OF, THERE IS SOMETHING THAT HELPS.........IF ONLY PEOPLE WOULD TRY IT..........GIVE IT A CHANCE!!! THESE THINGS REALLY DO WORK!

KEEP WORKING HARD ON THAT KARATE. YOU COULD PROBABLY KNOCK ME DOWN WITH A FEATHER, SO I WILL REST EASY KNOWING YOU AREN'T LIVING HERE!!!

I WISH YOU PEACE, LOVE, BLESSINGS, JOY.........JAN

I USE ALL CAPS FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED.

ROCKNROLL

Hey Epi,

Congrats on your blue belt!! How cool! I am going to throw it out there that I do Yoga and Pilates ;) (well not recently) it has helped my balance. And as you say always good to get active! And I think it makes you feel less tired as well. Congrats again :)

Congrats! Being a karate person and knowing what it takes to get your blue belt is a huge accomplishment. Keep up more training. It gets better and better in the higher ranks. What style are you practicing?
