Alcohol and Seizures

Hello All,

My name is Jenna. I am on this site, because I feel that I can be help to others. I was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2004. I was in collage and working full time. In between time, I would still try to maintain a social life and keep up with my friends. At times it was hard.  We all know how it is in collage. Late nights, drinks, parties with drinks and so on. After I graduated i guess I was so use to that life style and continued to drink ever since. I was single and ready to mingle. My girl friends and I would have dinner and drinks every night. I dont want to say I drank heavily, but by the looks of it all, I guess I really did. I met my husband in 2007 and we hung out together, which slowed down my drinking, and I had 4 seizures that year. It was a little weird, because I hadn't  had a seizure since 2004. We noticed that my seizures would happen after a night of drinking .I went to the Neurologist, they performed a routine EEG. My results came back and showed I had seizure activity. The Dr put me on Lamictal amd I've been on it ever since. A whole year has gone by I am 5 months pregnant and of course have not been drinking. I also am seizure free. I went to have a follow up EEG,and there was no seizure activity. I was totally suprised with the news. My Husband and I had done tons of research and allot of seizures happen from the withdraw of alcohol consumption. So, I am a firm believer, that heavy alcohol cunsumption to little or no alcohol consumption can definantly cause seizures. I hope this helps many of you guys out there suffering with seizures. Also being on lamictal AED I was scared that my child would have some kind of birth defect. However I was on a small dose 75mgs the first trimester which is the time of formations. Took tons of folic acid and am having a beautiful healthy baby boy (biscuit) in March. His name is going to be Joshua

Best Regards,

 Jenna
