well it is the second day on Keppra. Yesterday was totally normal but today he's been so tired. He cleaned out his chicken barn and did chores but he keeps complaining of feeling so tired. I'm really not convinced about the medication route....The ticket that is holding me here is the theory of "kindling". That seizures beget seizures... if i didn't buy that line i would totally go drug free with him. I wish we knew more about the nature of seizure disorders and what makes them begin and end... what makes them spread...They tell us that short seizures like Darren's won't cause brain damage. He only has them in the am while he's in bed, so seizing doesn't seem so bad but if the seizure activity in and of itself increases seizure activity a person feels the need to limit it. So frustrating to be acting on a scientific "theory"!!! Where are the scientific facts? I want my boy back. I can't help worrying about the future. What will he be like 10-20 years down the road. What will the meds do? Will he be depressed, loose all his hair, go bald, be infertile, still be seizing, be seizure free... how many meds will we try... and most importantly will i know then that none of that matters? I have to keep reminding myself that this life is not the end all be all. The things that matter are questions like, What will his character be? Will he love God? Will he love others? Will he be a tender father and a loving husband and a godly man? God, don't let us become so consumed with the things of the world that we forget you, that we let go of your steady hand, that all we care about is what others think. (pride) Help us to evaluate our lives by how much we surrender up to you... carry this load Lord. It's heavy today. --jess
