Take control of your epilepsy and seizures. Seizure management has never been easier.
TAKE CONTROL TODAYSo Kaitlyn started the Zonegran on June 14th, for the most part there weren't any side effects that we couldn't deal with until the rash started on her legs. We stopped the medicine cold turkey on June 24th and she has been having some symptoms that almost seem to be like withdrawl from the medicine but other than that nothing. When she started to take the medicine she lost all desire to eat, she lost almost 2 lbs and from the time that she quit taking it till now she has gained that back and it eating like she has been starving for the last few weeks. It's good to see her eat and not trying to force the food in her face.
I was speaking with my father at dinner tonight as he was just starring at her amazed at how different she is now that she isn't on any medicine. He said he was glad to see his little Kaitlyn back. I think it upset him to have something wrong with her, he is the only person who understands and agree with what we have decided to do. We have decided to stop trying medicine for awhile. Since she isn't on anything, we don't have to worry about weaning her off of anything, and the way she is acting right now makes me want to take some time off from the medicine. If she starts to have more seizures or anything changes I will re-think our approach to this but it is so nice to have my sweet, funny little girl back. I missed her so much. She is just cracking us up again and is being so much easier to handle.
I guess what we are thinking is that if the side effects from the medicine are worse then the seizures are why would we want to go that route? Why not try it without meds and just watch everything? Why not see what she is like without the meds and then make that choice?! I don't know, I'm sure someone can sympathize with the choice and I'm sure there are people out there who don't understand. For now I think this is what we want to do. Take some time off from doing the medicine dance.
That's all.

Emily,
I think this is all a wait and see kind of treatment. So how can your type of wait and see be any different? Right? I understand what you are going through - completely. I read on here how many different meds people have tried. How some work great and some are terrible, but then those same great ones are terrible for others and the terrible ones are great! Its a difficult process and there isn't one easy answer. I wish you and Kaitlyn and the rest of your family all the best - always,
d
