Take control of your epilepsy and seizures. Seizure management has never been easier.

TAKE CONTROL TODAY

Your Voice, October 2008

by Patty Shafer, Resource Specialist

Epilepsy as a family affair

When seizures strike, it’s more than just one person who lives with it - parents, siblings, grandparents, and other friends and relatives all want to know what’s going on, what’s causing it, and what can be done. Lately, I’ve met many new parents on epilepsy.com. I’m sorry to hear of the circumstances that have brought you here, but glad you found us! There are lots of places for parents to connect on epilepsy.com. Here are a few you’ll want to check out.

  • The Community Forum Parent Group – is a great place to visit and share your challenges, questions, and joys. Parents with children newly diagnosed with seizures can share their stories and find other people with similar situations or other parents who have been there and can share helpful tips. There are also topics for Families and Friends. Then connect in our chat room and browse around the main site for more information targeted just to parents and other family members!
  • Or visit our Groups section and join the group for Parents of Children with Epilepsy. This offers another way to share your voice with everyone at epilepsy.com and let us know what’s on your mind and how we can best help you.

Epilepsy Talk Radio

I hope you’ve had a chance to join one of our Talk Radio shows! This month we had Dr. Daniel Lowenstein talking about the Epilepsy Phenome Genome Project and other genetic aspects of epilepsy. Then Dr. Eric Kossoff talked to us about Dietary Therapies in Epilepsy. If you missed any of these, you can listen to the archived sessions right on epilepsy.com or through BlogTalkRadio. We’re hoping to offer more of these shows so please let us know what you’d like to hear about! Also, if you are willing to share your own experiences through Epilepsy Talk Radio, please contact me at patty@epilepsytdp.org.

As always, thanks to all of you who share your voices with us and with each other, day in and day out. On behalf of all our community members, I’d like to give a special thanks to Dr. Steven Schachter who is stepping down as Editor-in-Chief of epilepsy.com. He has spearheaded so many opportunities to have our voices heard and we owe him a great debt of gratitude. Thank you, Dr. Schachter!

Best wishes to all,

Patty Shafer
