According to an FDA Alert issued on January 31, 2008, based on the FDA's analysis of 199 studies comparing an antiepileptic drug (AED) with a placebo, patients receiving AEDs rarely displayed suicidal behavior or ideation (about 4 out of every 1,000 patients).
