Warming Up to Managing Your Epilepsy: Seizures, Sports and Exercise

Epilepsy News From: Wednesday, September 07, 2016

Community Corner: September 7, 2016

Getting exercise — through play, sports, or daily activities — helps us all in so many ways. We are learning more about how exercise and being fit may help people with seizures. There are also well known links between exercise and sleep, weight, mood, and health in general.

Yet many people also have concerns about safety. Could certain types of exercise or activity trigger a seizure? Are safety precautions needed for some sports? What should coaches, trainers, and friends know about seizure first aid or who to call?

Join us for our online session, "Warming Up to Managing your Epilepsy: Seizures, Sports, and Exercise."

Join David Taplinger, MD, from the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center at the University of Virginia and Adeola Sonaike, PhD, MPH, director of the National Get FIT initiative, to learn key tips about exercise and sports, get answers to your safety concerns, and learn how to get started. The session will include time for questions and sharing.
