Hispanic Heritage Month 2016: Raising Epilepsy Awareness in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska
Epilepsy News From: Wednesday, September 21, 2016
A couple of weeks ago, we shared information about our program, "Epilepsy Awareness on College Campus program in Hispanic Serving Institutions." The following describes the work of one of the local Epilepsy Foundations in this effort.
The Epilepsy Foundation Northwest is excited to increase our outreach to Hispanic American Communities in Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. We are proud to have partnered with local higher education institutions to offer Epilepsy 101 trainings, including an online webinar in Spanish, and to provide materials in Spanish. Our work is designed to raise awareness, dispel myths, and reduce fear and misunderstanding about seizures and epilepsy.
Our recent activities include the following:
- Hosted an information table at a Cinco de Mayo Health Fair
- Supplied local health agencies with epilepsy resources in Spanish
- Spoke to a group at the University of Washington at the end of August
As we recognize Hispanic Heritage Month, help us spread seizure first aid awareness to the Spanish-speaking population. Find resources in Spanish. We look forward to continuing this work and spreading awareness around the Northwest.
