Dr. Jean Aicardi, 1926 - 2015

The Epilepsy Foundation is saddened by the passing of Dr. Jean Aicardi on August 3, 2015. A French neurologist, Aicardi was the first to describe a rare genetic form of epilepsy that almost always affects females. Known as Aicardi Syndrome, this rare epilepsy disorder is primarily defined by the underdevelopment of the corpus callosum area of the brain, holes in the pigmented part of the eye, and infantile spasms.
