More Navigating Help for Epilepsy.com

With the new changes in epilepsy.com, we have been able to add richer content and incorporate many of the changes that you requested throughout the year. We also think that the new changes will make it easier for you to interact within the community.

However we realize that change can be difficult, even when it is for the better. We want to help you navigate around the site, and the more you do, the more accustomed to the layout you become, the easier it will be. Here are a few tips and shortcuts that you may find helpful.

Looking for something? Try using our Google Search found at the top right of each page. You can search for content by typing in a key word or phrase. You can also look for posts written by specific users by typing in the desired user name. This Google search allows you to search the whole site or any of the following areas:

Want to find a section quickly?

At the bottom of each page, look for the shortcuts to your favorite pages. These can help you switch between pages quickly and bring you to your favorite features.

Join a group?

Our list of groups is growing steadily. Many are quite active where members check in regularly. Others are just getting started and looking for new members. These groups don’t take the place of our community forums, blogs, or chats, but are another way to find each other, stay connected and share common concerns and interests.

Look Who’s Talking!

This feature is back by user demand. Find out what community members are talking about and gain a snapshot into the most recent posts in our community forums and blogs. This is a great way to see what’s new. You may click on the posts and jump right in to respond!

Want to schedule events?

Check out the Community Calendar and see what’s happening. Users can add dates of epilepsy-related events that they would like to share with other members. Visit http://epilepsy.com/event to add or view events. Members of Community Groups can add events specific to their group’s activities and these can be viewable only to group members or shared with the entire community. After adding an event, make sure to check off which group calendar you want the entry to be added to and indicate whether or not the event is public.

Welcome our Community Mentors!

Visit the Community Forum Chat Rooms and look for a user with a green-colored icon. These users, called mentors, have volunteered to periodically help out in the chat rooms and elsewhere on the site. Mentors help the chat rooms remain a safe place where members can ‘give and get’ support. Mentors can also help newcomers find their way or figure out who to call for help. Our mentor program is a pilot program and we will be adding new mentors as we go along. If you’re interested in becoming a mentor, please contact me at patty@epilepsytdp.org.

Coming soon…

  • Each month I’d like to highlight some of our Community Groups. If you have started a group, send me an update of your group’s activities or a brief description to share with our users.
  • This month we started ‘Q & A Chats’ which is a chance to have invited experts join us to answer questions about specific topics. Dr. Steven Schachter led the Q & A Chat on Seizure Medicines recently. Stay tuned for notices on February Chats.

I hope these updates help and thanks for being a part of the my.epilepsy.com Community!
