Overview of Molecular Targets for AEDs

Dr. Barry E. Gidal, Professor of Pharmacy & Neurology and Chair, Pharmacy Practice Division at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, sets the stage for this roundtable video by giving an overview of what the most common molecular targets for antiepileptic drugs are, and gives some sense for the different places that our commonly used drugs work.

That will then lead into a discussion of talking about newer molecular entries, newer drugs, and then finishing up with a discussion of how these mechanisms may all fit together and how we may potentially combine drugs to get an enhanced effect.

Timing of Seizures

Dr. Pavlova and colleagues from Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School analyze the pattern of timing of when seizures occur. Particularly, they sought to establish whether there is a particular time of day when individuals have a higher tendency to have seizures.
